THE GALLERY

"...arguably the deepest space in Oakland's burgeoning new gallery scene." - East Bay Express

Here's a memorial page to the now legendary Oaklandish Gallery, Shop, & Culture Lounge, which was apparently too good to last. Open from November '03 to September '05, our headquarters were located in an old produce district warehouse space near Jack London Square. (We later discovered that this was the very first 2 story commercial building in Oakland).

During our brief tenure we hosted a rotating calendar of art exhibits, screenings, and performances showcasing the diverse creative communities of the East Bay area and beyond. The gallery also housed the Folklandish Library of local books, videos, artifacts and memorabila from the 20th century, as well as our popular line of merchandise.

So, why did it close? Not because the program wasn't a success... but you may find a few clues in this old Tribune Article.
