THE FOLKLANDISH LIBRARY
of books, videos, and collectibles

Before we opened the gallery we began collecting items for our "Folklandish Library". Through flea markets, the internet, and odd donations we began to amass a sizable bounty of 20th Century Oakland memorabilia. The collection included over 100 books of local interest, many relavent videos, and an interesting series of found objects.

One of the nicest additions to the library was Dan Fontes' family collection of matchbook covers, which displayed hundreds of tiny advertisements for local businesses. Most of these businesses of couse are gone, but the style and content of the matchbook covers are documents to a completely different era in Oakland.
