A growing collection of audio mixes, each featuring a different look in to East Bay musical scenes of the present and past...
EASTBAY PUNK ROCK
The cooperative run Berkeley venue 'Gilman Street' was the epicenter of the Bay Area's thriving punk scene. On any given night
there in the late 80's you could see a multitude of influential & energetic young bands, many of whom would later
go on to become international rock stars. This mix is a snap shot of those early days, when spirited local kids recreated punk in their own image.
Featuring: Isocracy, Fang, Kwikway, East Bay Mud, Crimpshrine, Operation Ivy, The Mr. T Experience, and The Transplants.

EASTBAY THRASH METAL
In the 80's Heavy Metal music began to get harder & faster, as local bands were inspired by their punk compatriots. The all ages night club 'Ruthie's Inn' was
a breeding ground for this musical fusion, dubbed ''Thrash Metal'. At this time the members of Metallica lived together in a house in El Cerrito, and were
an integral part of this East Bay scene. The bands in this mix all played together at Ruthie's, and shared a similar morbid sensibility. (Footnote: the El Sobrante
band 'Possessed' are cited as the godfathers of the sub-genre called "Death Metal", the name of which came from the title of their 1983 demo tape).
Featuring: Exodus, Laaz Rockit, Death Angel, Testament, Possessed, Vio-lence, Metallica, Heathen, and Y&T.

OAKLAND RAP TRACKS - Vol 1.
More well documented is Oakland's contribution to Hip Hop. These tracks were unavoidable during the golden age, when these
beats were heard booming out of car trunks city wide. (Before the early 90's no-cruising laws were passed). There are way too
many influential artists to fit in one mix, so here we just started with the fundementals. Featuring: Too Short, Digital Underground,
E-40 and the Click, The Luniz, Dru Down, and the Souls of Mischief.

OAKLAND's NU-JACK SWINGLES
New Jack Swing is defined as R&B or Soul style vocals produced with Hip-Hop style rhythms. It was popularized by
a wave of radio friendly pop artists in the late 80's, including most notably Oakland's Tony!Toni!Tone! The follwing mix
honors that era & style, while including some acts that predated the scene altogether. With Timex Social Club, Club Nuveau,
Tony!Toni!Tone!, En Vogue, and Sheila E.
